Gas Kiln

new gas kiln

For years Marion had been dreaming of this day of having a gas kiln. But with space at a premium, it was looking pretty daunting. How in the world could this work out?

Where would they put it so it wouldn’t be too much in the way? Well on that fateful day in August, all concerns flew out with the wind and the decision was made. The 1 ton gas kiln was coming home and they would make it welcome.

No matter that the kiln was located in a garage in Oyster Bay with an absolutely treacherous access route, (you had to wonder how they got it there in the first place!). And even after the first attempt to extract it utterly failed, Marion kept up her spirits. This was meant to be. All she had to do was find the right person to help her out.

And as fate would have it, she found that person. After hours of careful maneuvering, sometimes inch-by-inch, the kiln was loaded onto the truck. In fact, at one point Marion quickly learned how to manage a forklift so that the whole thing could be negotiated safely.

Now came the journey through the park with rain threatening at every turn, (a stop to cover the top opening was managed just in time) and fears of the kiln tumbling from the truck were soon abated.

Home at last, all safe and sound, the kiln was slowly lowered to its new location. And though this kiln requires a bit of work before its first firing, just think about the possibilities. With glaze recipes dancing through her head, I reckon we will see some interesting work in the upcoming months!
